Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman Presents Two Southwest Indiana Mayors Neighborhood Stabilization Grants
HUNTINGBURG, IN - June 11, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Lt. Governor Becky Skillman today awarded two local communities with grants to buy abandoned or foreclosed homes, demolish or redevelop vacant properties and help low-and moderate-income home buyers purchase properties. Funding for these grants comes from the 2008 federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
Skillman was joined by Huntingburg Mayor Marvin Belcher and Tell City Mayor Barbara Ewing for the awards ceremony.
“Indiana is not immune to the problems of foreclosure. It is something that Governor Daniels and I are tackling head-on,” said Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman. “With this funding, Huntingburg and Tell City will be able to revitalize their communities and provide new opportunities for homeownership.”
The allocations for the two communities are as follows:
TRI-CAP (City of Huntingburg) $4,544,275
City of Tell City $1,875,350
Today’s event follows the Lt. Governor’s announcement last week that 21 communities and community organizations will share $50 million in NSP grants. A full list of grant recipients can be found at http://www.in.gov/ihcda/3118.htm.
In April, Lt. Gov. Skillman announced part of Indiana’s $83 million total — $33 million - will be made available to homebuyers purchasing foreclosed homes. Information about both portions of the NSP funds can be found at www.in.gov/ihcda.
A total of 83 communities or non-profit organizations submitted grant applications after an RFP was issued in December. The Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority reviewed all applications and conducted site visits for each proposal. Additionally, an outside panel of industry experts reviewed the applications and made recommendations.
“I congratulate those involved for taking the initiative to improve their communities. These funds will create more housing opportunities, create jobs and boost the local economy,” said Skillman.

Not much except that I am looking for a grant to help two disabled people get their homes hooked up in a rural area. Every where I look it will cost at least $25.00, money that I just do not have.
I sure could use some help to find where they do have grants, free grants for the individuals, who are handicapped. Any honest and complete help would be greatly appreciated.
