Grant Announcement
Washington, DC - July 1, 2009 - (RealEstateRama) — Congressman Baron Hill announced two U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grants today for the City of Bloomington.
Bloomington is set to receive more than a combined $1.5 million in two separate grants from HUD. The first is a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) award in the amount of $847,075.00, and the second is a HOME grant in the amount of $718,951.00.
According to a release issued by HUD, the CDBG program provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.
The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
“I am so pleased the City of Bloomington has successfully secured these grants,” Hill said. “Particularly during this time of economic hardship, these funds are critical to this community.”
