Northwest Indiana Housing Market Shows Continued Signs of Growth

PORTAGE, IN – May 31, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — According to the latest housing data compiled by RE/MAX of Indiana, Northwest Indiana’s real estate market continued to show moderate growth during the first four months of the year. Eight percent more homes sold from January through April 2012 with 2,086 homes compared to the same time last year with 1,930 homes.

Broken out by county, Porter had the highest percentage increase of homes sold year-to-date with 10.31 percent from January through April 2012 compared to the same time last year. This was followed closely by Lake County 9.98 percent. The number of homes sold decreased in LaPorte County by seven percent.

The average price of homes sold overall in Northwest Indiana remained flat at $131,106. Homeowners in Porter County saw the prices of homes sold increase by 3.25 percent to $174,195, while the average sold price of homes in Lake and LaPorte counties dropped by 0.27 percent and 0.57 percent respectively compared to the average sold price of homes in 2011.
