Coats, Senators Encourage Administration to Abandon Proposed Estate Tax Regulation

Senator Dan Coats (R-Ind.) today joined with a group of 41 senators to send a letter to Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew encouraging the Treasury Department to abandon proposed regulations that would significantly increase the estate tax burden on family farms and businesses. The proposed regulations, if finalized, would contradict long-standing legal precedent and greatly discourage families from continuing to operate and grow their farms and businesses for eventual transfer to future generations.

Donnelly Speaks to HUD Secretary Regarding East Chicago Lead Contamination

U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly spoke last evening with U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro to press HUD to continue assisting in the safe relocation of the families in the West Calumet Housing Complex in East Chicago. More than 1,000 residents have been impacted by high levels of lead and arsenic in the surrounding soil.

Donnelly Applauds USDA Investment in Improving Water Quality in Western Lake Erie Basin

U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly today applauded the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) announcement that it will invest in helping farmers stop harmful algae blooms from forming and expanding in Lake Erie. The USDA will award Indiana $1.5 million to help Hoosier farmers improve water quality in the western Lake Erie basin. U.S. Senator Joe Donnelly welcomed an announcement from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarding Centerstone of Indiana Inc., a federal grant to support its program for veterans and other individuals who experience homelessness with mental health care services and housing placement. Centerstone will receive a $1.2 million grant through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
